Tree Canopy Gondola

TREE CANOPY GONDOLA
Rise gently through the branches and into the treetops, with no climbing needed. Just sit back, hold on and enjoy the view together.
A tree canopy gondola is a seated ride that lifts you up through the branches and into the treetops. You sit in a small open gondola, wearing a helmet and clipped in with a harness, while a winch and ropes raise you slowly towards the top of a tall tree. There's no climbing involved, just big views and fresh air.
The canopy is the leafy top layer of a forest, where the crowns of the tallest trees meet. It's home to birds, insects and lots of other wildlife, and it's a world most people only ever see from the ground. Scientists often use ropes, walkways and even cranes to reach it, and a gondola gives you a taste of that same view.
It starts with a safety briefing on the ground. Then the crew fit your helmet and harness, check every buckle and help you step up into the gondola. Once you're clipped in and settled, the winch slowly lifts you off the ground.
As you rise, the trunk slides past, the branches open up and the view starts to stretch out across the forest and the countryside beyond. At the top there's time to look around, point things out to each other and take it all in, before you're lowered gently back down to the ground.
It's a lovely choice for families who want the thrill of height without the hard work. Because you stay seated the whole time, it suits children who aren't ready to climb, and grown-ups who would rather not either. Gondolas are often built for two, so a grown-up and child can ride up side by side, which helps nervous riders relax and enjoy it together.
Harnesses and gondolas come with weight and size limits, so it's worth checking those before you go.
Up in the canopy, you get a bird's-eye view that feels completely different from the forest floor. Look out for nests, the patterns the branches make and the way the light changes as you rise above the leaves. On a clear day you can see for miles across fields, hills and woodland.
Tall conifers such as redwoods make brilliant trees for a ride like this, as they grow straight, strong and very tall. Redwoods are some of the tallest trees on Earth, so the view from the top is something special.
Comfortable clothes that sit well under a harness, like trousers or shorts, and closed-toe shoes. Tie back long hair and leave hats or anything loose on the ground. Empty your pockets too, so nothing can fall on the people below.
DO WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO CLIMB?
No. It's a seated ride, so you just need to be able to step up into the gondola. The winch does all the lifting.
IS THE TREE CANOPY GONDOLA SAFE?
It is a high-risk activity. You are suspended at height, and an equipment or rigging failure could cause a serious fall. That's why the ropes, rigging and harnesses are checked carefully and run by trained crew. Stay seated and clipped in for the whole ride. Do not stand up, lean out or unclip anything. Do not drop or throw anything from the gondola, and keep clear of the area underneath, as falling branches or objects are a hazard below.
WHAT IF MY CHILD IS NERVOUS ABOUT HEIGHTS?
Going up slowly and staying seated helps many nervous riders feel settled, and riding next to a grown-up makes a big difference. If they decide they'd rather stay on the ground, that's absolutely fine.
WHAT IS THE TREE CANOPY?
The canopy is the top layer of a forest, formed by the crowns of the tallest trees. It's full of leaves, branches and wildlife.
