Aerial Bungee

AERIAL BUNGEE
Clip into a harness, push off the ground and feel gravity loosen its grip. Aerial Bungee is bouncing, dancing and giggling, all at once.
Aerial bungee is a fitness and dance activity where you wear a harness attached to a stretchy bungee cord fixed overhead. The cord takes some of your weight, so you can bounce, leap, swing and spin to music in ways that would be impossible on the ground. It's also known as bungee fitness or bungee dance, and it feels a little like flying.
Everyone has their own cord, fixed to a strong frame or rig above. The cord clips onto a harness that sits snugly around your waist and hips. When you push off the ground, the bungee stretches and then pulls you back up, which gives you extra lift and a softer landing. Lean forward and it carries you into a swoop. Lean back and you can float, turn or hang in the air for a moment.
Moves have fun names like superhero flights, star jumps, running leaps and spins. Put a few together in time with the music and you have a routine the whole group can do side by side.
Your Activity Leader starts by fitting everyone's harness and checking it carefully, then shows you how the cord behaves. You begin with small bounces and gentle steps to get a feel for it, before building up to bigger jumps, swings and turns. Expect a few wobbles and plenty of laughing at first. Once everyone has the hang of it, you can try moving together as a group, which looks brilliant and feels even better.
It's a joyful one for children and grown-ups to try together. There's no special skill to learn first, and because the cord supports part of your weight, even big jumps feel easy. Children often love the feeling of flying like a superhero, and parents usually find they're giggling just as much. Some people feel a little dizzy after lots of bouncing, so short breaks help everyone stay steady on their feet.
Leggings, jogging bottoms or loose trousers are best, as the harness sits close around the hips and legs and can rub bare skin. Choose a comfortable top that stays tucked in and trainers for landing. Take off watches and dangly jewellery, empty your pockets and tie back long hair.
DO WE NEED ANY EXPERIENCE?
Not at all. Beginner sessions start with small, gentle bounces, and all the kit is provided.
IS AERIAL BUNGEE SAFE?
Aerial bungee is a high-risk activity. Falls or getting caught up can happen if a harness or rig fails, so every harness is fitted and checked by the Activity Leader before anyone leaves the ground. Do not unclip, loosen or adjust your harness yourself. Bouncing can make some people dizzy and affect balance, so stop and tell the Activity Leader straight away if you feel unwell.
ARE THERE SIZE LIMITS FOR THE HARNESS?
Yes. Harnesses have weight and waist size limits, so check the activity details before you go.
IS AERIAL BUNGEE A GOOD WORKOUT?
It gets your heart going and uses lots of different muscles, though most families are too busy laughing to notice.
