K-POP DANCE
Sharp moves, big smiles and perfect timing. Learn a K-pop routine together and feel like the stars of your very own music video.
K-pop dance is the style of choreography performed by Korean pop groups, famous for its sharp, perfectly in-sync moves. It blends hip-hop, street and commercial dance with catchy point moves, the signature steps that everyone copies from a song's chorus. Fans all over the world learn these routines together and film their own dance covers.
K-pop is short for Korean pop, the pop music from South Korea that has become a worldwide hit. Groups often have lots of members, and every song comes with a polished routine that is as important as the music itself. Performers train for years to sing and dance at the same time, and their music videos are packed with bright colours, big formations and eye-catching moves.
Point moves are the heart of it: short, memorable steps tied to a lyric, so easy to spot that fans can name a song from them alone. Around those sit hip-hop grooves, sharp arm lines, body waves, isolations and quick footwork. Formations matter too, as dancers swap places so the group keeps changing shape. Finally, there's expression, because a big smile or a cheeky wink to the camera is all part of the performance.
Your Activity Leader starts with a warm-up to get everyone loose and moving. Then the routine is broken into small chunks, counted in eights, and you learn each one slowly before speeding up to the music. Once the chunks are linked together, you practise in formation and run the whole dance a few times. Many families like to film the final run-through, so you can watch it back and relive the moment.
Yes, and it's a joyful one to try together. Children often already know the songs, which gives them a head start and a big dose of excitement. Every move is taught step by step, so beginners can keep up and more confident dancers can add their own flair. Learning a routine side by side is a lovely way to build confidence and teamwork, and grown-ups are warmly encouraged to join in.
Comfortable clothes you can move in and trainers with a good grip are best. Bring a bottle of water too, as it's energetic stuff.
DO WE NEED ANY DANCE EXPERIENCE?
Not at all. Every move is taught step by step, so complete beginners can join in.
IS K-POP DANCE SAFE?
This is an energetic dance session with fast footwork, so ankle twists, trips or falls can happen. Warm up properly and wear trainers with a good grip. Do not dance in socks, sliders or flip-flops, and leave enough space around you so you don't bump into anyone.
DO WE NEED TO KNOW ANY KOREAN?
No. Every move is taught by showing and counting, so you can simply enjoy the music.
WHAT IS A POINT MOVE?
It's the signature step from a K-pop routine, usually tied to a catchy line in the chorus, that fans copy and recognise straight away.
