WOODEN PLAY SETS

Stack it, sort it, roll it and knock it all down again. A calm, cosy corner for little ones and their grown-ups to play together.

What are wooden play sets?

Wooden play sets are simple toys and games made from wood, like stacking rings, building blocks, shape sorters and little train tracks. They are made for babies and toddlers to explore with their hands, at their own pace. There are no rules and no right answers, just open-ended play, side by side with the grown-ups who love them.

What kinds of wooden toys are there?

Building blocks are the classic. Little ones stack them, line them up and, best of all, knock them down.

Stacking rings and rainbow stackers are curved or round pieces that fit together in size order, or in any order your toddler decides.

Shape sorters and chunky puzzles ask small hands to match a shape to the right hole, with plenty of turning and trying again.

Pull-along toys, rolling cars and simple train sets get toddlers moving, pushing and chasing.

Bead mazes, sliders and stacking cups are wonderful for babies who are just starting to grab, bang and pass things from hand to hand.

Why do families like wooden toys?

Wood feels lovely to hold. It's smooth, warm and a little bit heavy, so each piece gives small hands something real to grip and explore. Wooden toys are sturdy too, which suits the bashing, dropping and chewing that comes with being very small. Because the toys are so simple, children get to decide what they are for. A block can be a tower, a phone, a car or a snack for a teddy.

How can we play together with babies and toddlers?

Follow their lead. Sit on the floor at their level, offer a toy and see what they do with it. Name colours and shapes as they go, count the blocks in a tower, or take turns adding one more piece. Toddlers love it when you copy them, so try building the same tower side by side. With babies, slow and simple is perfect: rolling a ball back and forth or tapping two blocks together can hold their attention for ages.

Do we need to stay with our little ones?

Yes. Wooden play sets are a relaxed Drop-in space for open-ended play, so grown-ups stay with their children the whole time and play along. It's a lovely chance to slow down together, meet other families with little ones and let your toddler explore something new while you're right there beside them.

FAQ
WHO ARE WOODEN PLAY SETS FOR?

They are made for babies and toddlers to enjoy with their grown-ups. Older brothers and sisters are welcome to join in and help build.

IS THERE SOMEONE IN CHARGE OF THE PLAY AREA?

No. It's an open play space with no Activity Leader, so parents and carers supervise their own children at all times.

ARE WOODEN PLAY SETS SAFE FOR BABIES AND TODDLERS?

Wooden toys are generally sturdy and simple, but splinters and small nicks to fingers can happen with wood. Stay with your child at all times and check toys for rough edges or damage before they play. Do not leave babies alone with small pieces they could put in their mouths, and hand over only toys that suit your child's age.

DO WE NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

No. The toys are all there for you. Just bring your little one and anything they need to feel comfy.
